First batch of Christmas Cookies

For those of you that don't know me, here is another of my Christmas traditions (as well as some pics of my partially painted kitchen...LOL) For the past 10 years I have made these sugar cookies for my friends and family as Christmas gifts. It's to the point that if I don't make them, my sister thinks something is wrong...LOL.

These cookies are amazing, they are the softest sugar cookie I have ever made, almost cake like. And you just don't want to put frosting on them, it's just too much, so I sprinkle a little colored sugar on the top, which is JUST right!

So, on average I make about 20 dozen of these puppies. Each batch takes 6 cups of flour, 3 cups of sugar, 2 cups of buttermilk, 4 eggs and 2 cups of oil, plus a few other ingredients that I'll keep to myself...LOL, and each batch that I mix up makes about 13 dozen cookies.

This year, for the first time, I let the kids help, my son lasted about 2 batches, then was done, but my daughter was there from start to finish, we had alot of fun! We had the radio on a local station that's playing nothing but Christmas songs and sang and danced in between taking cookies in and out of the oven...LOL.

So, here's the cookies, and a sneak peek of my unfinished kitchen...LOL

Here is the table full of cookies, but this isn't all of them, had to package some up to make room mid way...LOL, you can see Harley looking over the makeshift gate I put up, he was whining the whole time, I couldn't figure out if he wanted to help or if he wanted to eat the cookies...LOL

The dogs were at this make shift gate the whole time I was out there baking. I hated to put that up, but I didn't trust them to not jump up on the table and steal cookies...LOL

Here's brat gurl licking the cookie dough off her finger, which I told her NOT to do more than once...LOL

She snuck in and started spooning dough onto the trays while I was taking trays out of the oven, she did a really good job as you can see from this picture and the one below!!
You can also see the cabinets that are painted already, they were a really dark brown before I painted them. I'm hoping to finish them up this week!

Brat gurl again

Harley and Riley REALLY wanted to come out in the kitchen, can you tell? LOL

This is another picture of the table of cookies...LOL

So, there you have it. Round one of two, maybe three, of Christmas cookies. Anyone want to come help? I give samples!!!

Those cookies look awesome! I bet those dogs got something ... even it was just crumbs when everything was said and done.

I'd love that recipe, my sugar cookies don't come out quite right ... maybe I need buttermilk?
