Wish me luck...

Cross your fingers and wish me luck. For those of you that don't know, I am a smoker and have been for more than 2/3 of my life. I hit my first smoke around the ripe age of 13 and never looked back. If I'd have known 28+ years ago what I know now, I'd have dropped that cigarette and ran like hell!!!

Since becoming a smoker the things that I've lost are mind endless. I used to have a beautiful singing voice, now I can't even sing Happy Birthday at my kids' birthday parties, but that's the least of my worries now. Because of smoking I have chronic asthma and emphysema. I have had alot of breathing problems lately and made it to the doctors this week and was informed that my asthma and emphysema are to the point that I have no choice anymore, I either quit smoking or I will die from it.

I just put out, what I have every intention of being, my last cigarette. Yes, I do know how lame that sounds, but to me this is huge. Cigarettes have been my constant companion for many years. They are one of the first things that I have picked up in the morning and one of the last things I have put down at night before bed, as well as many middle of the night "fixes". I've smoked when I've been happy, sad, mad and stressed, I've smoked during every major event in my life, and have allowed cigarettes to infiltrate every part of my life. But NO MORE!! Today I choose life and living, I choose to be there to see my children grow up and have children of their own, I choose to wake up tomorrow and not allow this drug to be a part of my life anymore. So goodbye old friend, I'd like to say it's been nice knowing you, but you've taken away too much already and I won't allow you to take anymore!

If anyone out there has any tips to help me do this, I would greatly appreciate them! I'm not worried about weight gain as I've never been one to obsess over my size, but I also am not one to much on junk food either. I'm opting to try not to use the patches, gums or lozenges at this time, but will use them if I think I need it. Anyway, I'm tired and need to get to bed, it's almost midnight and WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY past my bed time...LOL!! I'll keep ya posted!

I'm not sure if my comment went through, so just in case it didn't. Here it is again,

I am crossing my fingers for your success in quitting. I have two words of advice to you. 1) Don't sweat it if you can't quit on the first try, just don't give up, keep trying. 2) to help with the oral fixation (the whole hand to mouth thing), either chew gum or try chewing on a straw. It may help. Also, I had a friend who took an antidepressant, prescribed just so she could quit, it worked (she was a heavy smoker). I have another friend who used the patch. (she also was a heavy smoker) Don't be afraid to use an aid in quitting. It's all about your health now.
Good Luck & ~hugs.
